Just replaced the water pump... comments and a tip Posted by ryan [Email] (#2222) [Profile/Gallery] (more from ryan) on Sun, 17 Feb 2013 21:09:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The supply turbo cooling line is attached to the water pump housing with a banjo fitting, and the O-rings/washers were not in good shape. The factory Saab kit does not include new O-rings, and they are not easy to find (I was not successful after going to 4 supply stores). Also, trying to use crush washers would probably not be a good idea because the required clamping force would likely strip out the water pump housing. Order up two of these for your next water pump job, and save yourself a major headache.
Overall the job was a huge PITA, but feels worth it now that I'm done, and saved all that money in labor. Just be sure to clean up any surface that the O-rings come into contact with (I used red scuff pads), and use lots of Vaseline, and you should be leak free!
