1. Switch back to Synthetic oil ASAP! You got bad advice for going to standard dino oil, it is known for a fact to cause problems in your model year Saab. You will find tons of threads about oil sludge and proper oil type and change interval on this site if you search. Most on this site would recomend Mobil 1 0w-40, change it every 5,000 miles. This is critical if you want to keep your car going for many more years.
2. Change the idler pulley and tensioner/pulley assembly. They OEM idler pulley bearings are known to fail after as little as 50k miles, and they tend to make whining noises as they near failure. The tensioner pulley may also be making the noise, these are also a wear item. At 120K it is best to replace the entire tensioner assy. Early model years of the 9-3 had a longer belt with an extra idler, later model years switched to a shorter belt with one less idler, and this "short belt" mod was common upgrade when the belt needed replacing. On the 2001 you already have the short belt from the factory. So yes, the AC is still in the loop. If you are paying for all this work to be done at a shop, do the belt too as it is scheduled to be done every 60K and you are 75% of the way there and there is no extra labor as the belt needs to come off either way. I would geuess a shop would charge between 1 and 2 hours labor to do this work, plus part costs.
3. The sticky shifting is not uncommon. Many on this sight have drained their tranny and refilled with Redline MTL manual tranny oil. Others report that this improves shifting significantly.
