I've had luck with black silicon caulk, but I don't know if I'll ever be able to remove it, should the glass somehow break and I need to replace it. The only problems with the caulk are:
1. temperature. It should be above 50.
2. The glass has a tendency to slide downwards while the caulk is still runny. You need some kind of spacer to put along the bottom edge of the glass, to keep it from sliding down. Find the spacer first, then do the job.
3. Don't use too much, or you'll be trying to wipe up the extra, at the same time you're trying to hold it in place. A thin bead around the edge and an X across the middle should be sufficient.
I like the idea of sealing the outside edge of the glass with a continuous bead of caulk, so water doesn't get in there and freeze. There hasn't been any problem with my using the heated mirrors, BTW. No loosening, and the heat seems to be evenly conducted to the glass.
