The hot temps may be coincidental, or maybe helped cause something.
I have a 1999 9-3 T-5 turbo with 195K miles. When mine starts running rough at idle but fine at higher RPMs it's always been a "unregulated air" issue, i.e. to much air caused by a bad vacuum line or a bad EVAP purge valve.
With the turbo, idle is negative pressure and increasing the RPMS starts to positively presure the lines so I'm guessing that what stops the roughness. With a non-turbo as always negatively pressured perhaps its a problem over a wider RPM range.
Based on above if it seems like it could be the lines, start by checking them for anything obvious (like cracks or not attached) & the EVAP valve. Its easy to test the EVAP purge valve (techically not part of the vacuum system, but acts like it), by clamping off the line close to the TB.
Even if you don't see anything with the lines, if they haven't been replaced in a while might want to do this anyway incase you are just not seeing the hole or crack. Replacing vacuum lines is realatively easy & cheap (more than enough basic ruber line to do the job is like $10). Same with replacing the EVAP purge valve... a new one I think is under $100.
If not the lines or EVAP valve, I'd start looking at spark.. either the plugs themselves or the DIC / Distributor, etc. May want to see if there are any codes to pull at an Autozone or the like.
When my DIC was on its way out, if I swapped the plug on the cylindar that had the issue it would seem to run fine for a while & not throw codes, (discovered this when I pulled the plugs to look at them and "swapped" the cylindars by accident... as it was always the same cylindar and did not move with the plug, I new it was the DIC & not the plugs).
