Hi Marc,
During winter our three Saabs (900S 1997, 9-3 SE Convertible 2000 and 9-3 SE HPT 2001) are all three equipped with Michelin Alpin winter tyres on the original Saab 15 inch steel wheels with the matching original hubcaps. Based on the advice from Saab (sticker left front door and last page user manual) we use on these steel wheels the 185/65/15 88T winter tyres. They drive very comfortable and are very reliable during snow and ice.
During summer our Saabs are equipped with the original Saab factory fitted alloy wheels: the 9-3 SE convertible with the 17 inch ALU 40, the 9-3 SE HPT with the 16 inch ALU 22 and the 900S with the 15 inch three spoke alu (Michelin Pilot tyre size 195/60/15 88V)
Only thing to look after (when using the 15 inch alloy wheels) is the small inside distance between the front wheel brake calipers and the alloy wheel when you use adhesive wheel balance weights. A few years ago the tyre shop where I bought my Michelins glued the adhesive balance weights on a not good position, result was that the adhesive wheel weights scraped to the brake calipers. Of course the problem was than solved directly by the tyre specialist: glueing the balance weights on a better position.
Best regards from the Netherlands,
Dennis
