Mysterious minor oil leak Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sat, 12 Jul 2014 09:17:31 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have been battling this ever since I bought my Viggen last August, and yesterday's events are a great example.
I drove the Viggen to work yesterday, ~75 mile round trip commute mostly expressways, and parked it in our very slightly sloped concrete driveway overnight. When I just now moved the car there was no oil spot beneath the car. In fact, I don't think the car has ever dripped oil on the driveway.
But when I park the car in the garage, and leave it for 2 or three days, there is always an oil spot beneath it. I bought a dollar store aluminum baking sheet which I place under the car and it will receive a teaspoon or so worth of oil after every extended parking period.
The oil appears to be originating from the filter gasket area, or maybe above the filter and it slides down the side of the canister to drip from the bottom edge.
Now I am sure someone will say to just drive the car daily and never let it sit. But it is a Viggen convertible with under 70K miles and I live in Michigan. My desire to keep miles low coupled with seasonal winter conditions make this not doable.
Purolator Pure-1 filter and 5W/40 weight oil, as if these might make a difference.
Any ideas?
