sway bar end link - how tight?

I'm replacing my sway bar end links (among a bunch of other things). The part of the link that connects to the control arm goes through a washer, a rubber bushing, then the control arm then another rubber bushing and another washer. How tight should that nut be? The tighter I make it, the more the rubber bushings squash, but I'm not sure how far to keep tightening.
Also, the washers are not flat (convex or concave, depending on how you look at it). Anyone know which direction the washers should be? Should the convex part be toward the bushings or away?
Hope my question is clear, and thanks for any help.
