I was working on my newly acquired '03 93 SE convertible this afternoon and recognized a number of areas not completed when prior repairs were made. Nothing serious mind you, but little detail things, primarily trim fasteners and pieces not replaced when the job was done.
The couple I purchased the car from tried to do the right thing. They had the car dealer serviced while under warranty and the oil changed every 3,000 miles with 5w-30 synthetic. I know for a fact they have never lifted a wrench for anything nor would they really know if a job was done well as long as the big picture item was repaired.
I found fasteners on the air dam, rear spoiler, doors and the like either missing or loose. Why put all 6 screws back in when 3 will hold it in place? I'm guessing they had the same oil changer shop do the repairs as well. Overall, mechanically the car is solid. The final 10% of the job in my mind is what forms my opinion of a mechanic.
Always look your car over following a repair! Over the years I have found tools left in the engine bay, loose or missing parts, and scratched surfaces, especially in and around the engine.
I know there are a lot of good Indie's out there and appreciate people that take pride in their work.I wish all shops could be like they are to keep our cars the way the manufacturer intended.
I am now stepping down from the soap box.
