The quickest way for me is to use two long screw drivers in spark plug hole and see them move up and down and when they stop moving, you have the pistons on top and at the bottom.
Then you just have to install the leak down tester in one of top piston holes and if it is free flowing, you know that's the wrong cylinder and move the tester over to the other hole where piston is at top and that's the one at compression stroke.
