We live in an ever-increasing world of rebranded parts. For example, the Timken wheel bearings on my wife's 1998 Accord are rebranded NSK's (either way great brands in that case). Obviously a common car and a common part. When you start talking DIC's for our Saabs (more obscure), I can't imagine there's that many making/refurbing them. What I would do is try to find out who is doing it for them, but I'm not sure that you'll even get that far. So at that point it is a crap shoot, although you could possibly bank on the company's general reputation in picking a reputable company to rebrand. I can't comment on Ultra8/Altrom in that regard.
My stance with the quality of MAF's and DIC's for our cars is that economics comes second to the safety of the engine. I like to buy the good stuff and have some peace of mind. You can't always count on a CEL to keep you safe; for example I had a bad stock MAF that was giving me very high A/F ratio's (pretty much stoichiometric) at WOT, but no CEL. Only the sniffer in my exhaust told me otherwise while I was at the dyno. However, a failing DIC puts you at risk of predetonation.... if you have a good ear, you may be able to actually catch it, in which a questionable DIC may be a worthy gamble.
Let us know anything you find out, most of us are looking for the cheapest quality DIC we can find!
