Self-inflicted P1640 issue?

I got a bit sloppy pouring my 4 liter jug of synthetic oil into the fill tube on my 2002 2.3L Viggen. Pouring too fast, I dribbled oil all over the back of the motor including onto the Alternator.
I sprayed some degreaser on the back of the motor including onto the alternator, then after a spell to air dry I used contact cleaner to try to clean up my mess.
When I tried to fire the motor, it would turn over but not start. I quickly got a CEL code which produced "P1640" High Voltage Warning. I replaced the main relay (under the steering column), cleared the code, and it fired right up.
I ran it for about 4 trips over 24 hours, then tonight I started it up and made it about 30 feet before the car died and tripped P1640 again. I swapped relays again and cleared the code and it started again. Before I shut it off for the night, I put a volt meter on the battery. It looks like I am getting 14.25 volts from the alternator.
Is it likely that I fried the voltage regulator with the oil or degreaser? Any other guesses, tests, or fixes I should consider?
Thanks in advance, all!
