Ok, so I just got a 01 se for the wife, picked it up for $600. Its got 123k on it and the flex between the two cats it starting to purrr (sorry couldn't help it). But really the flex has a leak and its just a little to loud for my taste. Now I see one O2 sensor up by the turbo and another behind the first cat but no more after that. My question is can I cut that pipe right after the second O2 but right before the flex and get rid of that second converter and the broken flex? I don't see a reason it would throw any codes because there is no sensor after it. I figured that the cheapest route would be cutting that out, if I can, and getting a flex pipe and some tubing and just run that from the first straight to the first muffler.

Secondly there is a tapping/knocking noise that I didn't hear when I first looked at the car, but for $600 I can't say I really looked at it that well. The car drives normally and has good pickup. The funny thing is the noise that I hear goes away when I let off the gas and only when I let off the gas and its almost non existent for the first few mins of the car starting. Its to a point where the warmer the car gets the louder it gets. It doesn't matter if the car is being driven or is sitting, once I give it gas and let off the pedal the noise goes and comes back. It's coming from the top middle of the cylinder head. I think I may have a finger on it but just thought I would ask for an opinion on would it might also could be. Thanks guys.
