HOnestly, i dont think it matter if you install the tensioner now or later.It will not change the timing.Wheni did my timing kit, both of my timing marks on the camshafts were slightly towards the intake side as well.. Slowly and carefully rotate the crank by hand to make sure everything is correct.Double and triple check as many times as you have to, to make you feel comfortable that the timing is correct..

It sounds like you are correct now and if you moved 1 tooth, i bet you would be off by alot..
