An easy one? Replace the hubs again!?

I did a right hub replacement several weeks ago. A non-Saab mechanic pressed or had it pressed into place.
Last week, I picked my car up from a Saab mechanic who, after I had complained of continued hub noise (just a whirring at speed - which actually might be just my tires), found that the replaced hub need to be torqued down some more.
Driving it home, I heard a new clank coming from the front right. It was most noticeable, initially, with first gear starts and second gear shifts. Then I started hearing it in turns and over some bumps.
A couple days later, the clank has added a squeak and I sense there is even more play in whatever is loose.
Jacking up the front, I didn't find anything that was loose, save for a metal, screw clamp around the strut that is supposed to hold a hose.
I checked for for hub play and couldn't move either wheel. No play there.
However, when I ROTATED the wheel, there was significant play between the two wheels and the sound (clank/squeak) was there. I THINK that's where the problem is, but I'm still not sure which element needs tightening or replacement.
I have little experience with front-wheel drive components and u-joints or whatever else might be involved.
Any ideas about it would be appreciated.
Thanks.
