9-3 Intermittent pause when starting Posted by thetallguy [Email] (#1698) [Profile/Gallery] (more from thetallguy) on Mon, 2 Nov 2015 03:18:53 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a new to me 2003 9-3 SE auto convertible with 122 K. I am experiencing an intermittent pause of the starter motor; initially the starter engages, the motor turns over, there is a pause accompanied by a noise, and then, if the key is held in the start position the car starts. This only happens occasionally and has continued even after having the original starter motor professionally rebuilt. The car has a new battery (checked out) and the ignition switch has no play. I renewed the grounds to the intake and the transmission. The car has, to date, always started. I bought the car three months ago and have, so far, done the head gasket, intake/exhaust gaskets, cleaned throttle body, rebuilt the brake vacuum pump and hose fittings, the starter, and all associated seals, etc. I replaced the previous owner's China cassette with a new SEM unit and new NGK plugs. The pause accompanied both the China cassette, a used SEM cassette, and now the new SEM cassette. I have looked at a number of posts regarding the starter but have not seen this specific problem detailed...any specific help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
