Major Drop in Compression Likely From Engine Sitting ? Posted by Roger D [Email] (#1121) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Roger D) on Tue, 2 Aug 2016 15:18:58 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Daughter ran her 2000 SE out of oil and the engine's ruined. Bought a used engine yesterday from a dismantler. Engine looks nice on the outside. Ran compression on it and got three cylinders at 135, the fourth cylinder was 60. Squirted oil in the low one and it only went up to 70. Called the dismantler and they said its normal because of the piston design in the 2000 engine. If those engines sit for months the rings stick. I have no frame of reference since all my experience has been 1999 and older. I've had a two C900 turbo engines that sat for 10 years. They had cold dry compression of 170-175. The dismantler says those are completely different engines and there aren't comparable. Any experience on this subject?
