Catastrophic hood latch failure Posted by Sondeen [Email] (#796) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Sondeen) on Wed, 24 Aug 2016 18:34:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
On the way home tonight while driving on interstate 84 in CT, I experienced catastrophic hood latch failure. (2001 9-3 base) Hood flipped up and smashed windsheild. Luckily traffic was light and I was able to pull to the shoulder. I was able to get the hood down, and then limp home 5 miles.
I am kicking myself because I knew the latch was sticky for a couple months now, but the hood still seemed to close and latch securely. It was really more a nuisance to open, and it was on my list to replace this fall.
Initial assessment is new windshield, new hood, and of course new latch. There is paint damage to the top edge of both fenders near the windsheild, so I will need paint work done, thus I might as well get a replacement hood repainted.
Any advice about replacement windshields? Best brand glass to get? Or a glass shop recommendation in central CT? I was hoping to keep the car many more years.
