There are overload (mechanical fuses) dowel pins in the tonneau linkage conection from the universal joint to the pivot arm. They get deformed over time and this limits the upward travel. Easy enough to fix.

Also see the Square drive section twisted. Sometimes it simple enough to twist or trim the rubber tonneau UP stops. They are under the curved tonneau hinges.
