That is one weird looking hose. I saw it when I was looking for any possible source of the coolant droplets. I didn't know what it was but the only logical explanation, to me at least, was that it is a drain hose with a crimped (but not sealed) end that would allow water/coolant leaks to drain from the heater box but not allow critters to enter.
Time to fire up my WIS copy to see how this is assembled, and to order the necessary parts before they go obsolete. May as well replace the heater hose set at the same time too. What about a new heater core - worth the time and trouble to replace it too?
Although this car is smaller than my 9-5 Aero, and uses effectively the same engine, I am amazed how much more space exists in the heater hose area for service.
