Heater Core Question Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 6 Nov 2016 05:47:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So it appears that I will need to replace the O-rings and plastic locking collars that provide the connections to the heater core. I read my WIS and so many parts need to be removed to access these parts that I may as well replace the core while I am in there.
I have been surprised to see that reputable brand name makers of these cores, Nissens for one, do not include the plastic elbows that bolt on to the core and provide the attachment for the locking collars! One website selling the Nissen cores says the elbows cannot be purchased separately, I guess that means NLA as a stand alone part. Can the old elbows be re-used? Seems to be Pound Wise and Penney Foolish to me to not replace these parts and to "assume" they can be reused on the new core without leaking.
I did find one seller whose web photo shows their product as being shipped with these elbows attached. It might be an old photo so I need to investigate further.
What is the common method here?
