Clutch cable-900 SE Turbo Posted by saabdestinyman [Email] (#1336) [Profile/Gallery] (more from saabdestinyman) on Wed, 24 May 2017 16:45:44 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I’ve got an issue with my ’97 900 SE Turbo that I would appreciate some advice on. I just had my clutch cable replaced by my Indie with an after market part, because the OEM cables are no longer available from Saab. So this is something we’ll all face eventually, if we've got a manual trans. On my car, the cable self adjuster (Saab cable) was frozen, the tried and true cable pull wouldn't work, and the clutch had gotten pretty tight.
To get the clutch adjusted properly, my tech had to turn the adjuster almost all the way to the end, with only a few threads remaining. The shop is telling me this indicates a worn clutch, but that can’t be the case. The clutch (Saab OEM, installed by a dealer I trust) only has about 10K miles on it, and I’m easy on clutches. I’ve gotten closer to 100K miles on clutches in previous Saabs, so they are durable.
My car was the first one the shop had installed this brand of cable on, and I think the part is not really properly designed for the Saab application. But how to prove it? You can’t inspect the clutch on these cars without tearing things apart, but I do have the paperwork proving that it has only about 10K on it.
I know the cable part was manufactured in Turkey (hmmm…), but I don’t have the brand. I know there are other manually adjustable cables out there (eEuroparts has one), but I would appreciate info on a proven part I could take to the shop to get this job redone under their warranty (2 yrs. 24K miles). Thanks!
