All in all I might have had 3 instruments going bad on the NG900, all different problems, so I would not think it is one specific problem area to solder repair or capacitor to replace.
If you can find a used one, I don't think you would have any problems except the mileage difference. If it is lower than yours, it can be rolled forward to match using a Tech 2 but not backwards.
Since the back unit is the same, I wonder if you could find a cheap turbo instrument and play around with it swapping the back side over to yours and see if it works?
