I don't have a viggen. I have a 95 900turbo. When in gears 3-5, if I floor the gas pedal, the boost will go into overboost for a very short period, ie, 1/8 into the red, then it will drop back to the border of red and yellow and stays there until I let off. The engine will allow you to go past the normal boost for a very short period of time and cut back to normal max. On my car that is about 12.? psi. In overboost I think it is closer to 14 with fuel shutoff around 15 or 16psi. My 2 cents is that your boost dropping back to the middle of the orange/yellow does not seem right. As far as the rpms go, you have to have enough exhaust flow to allow the compressor to spin fast enough to give you full boost. In other words you won't get it at 1,500 rpm. So in a sense, the rpm of the engine does affect the boost you get, but it is only part of the equation. The boost gauge not directly correlate to the rpm of the engine. Does any of this help, or does it make the situation worse?
