Partial followup. I didn't need to take the door skin off (yet) because my wife hit the window button out of optimism, and the window went up. Of course, then she was hot so she opened the sunroof, which the switch would then not close.
I was able to jumper the contacts to get the sunroof to close, so probably I screwed up that contact in the switch when I took it apart to clean it, and it is otherwise unrelated to the window problem. Since the driver window came up this time, but wouldn't come up when I jumpered the contacts the previous day, I now assume that the problem is just a loose connection in the door somewhere. Hopefully cleaning/reseating the easy-to-access harness will do the trick, and I'm not dealing with something like a dodgy solder joint inside the window motor.
Thanks again for the help.
