I do routinely take the wheels off my Saabs and I have never noticed a problem with the lug bolts even after over 20 years. There is some corrosion on the bolt heads from road salt, but none on the threaded parts. I am not knowledgable about metal fatigue, but would guess lug bolts rarely, if ever, fail. I use the plastic caps to hide corrosion on the bolts. I have wondered about some of the lug bolts for sale. Some of them have to be made in China and what about the hardness of the steel? At least the original bolts were specified by Saab. There are some black coated and chrome plated lug bots available if you want that look.
