Snow Tires: First driving impressions

I had my new Michelin Arctic Alpin's (185/65/15) put on today. Not a moment too soon either, as I live in Upstate NY, and we are getting hammered with snow. I just drove around town on lots of unsalted, unplowed side streets to get a feel for the car (96 900S 2dr) with its new shoes. After driving the car with it's worn all-seasons in the middle of a storm last night, the drive today was incredible. The Michelins seem to thrive on hard packed snow. The car was much easier to get going from a stop, and tracked straighter when doing so. After driving my brother's RWD Aerostar van today, which has a back end that seems to insist on becoming the front end when cornering in snow, the Saab with snows seems like it is glued to the ground. The back end is almost impossible to swing around, and the ABS keeps it from getting too crazy when braking and turning. (Side note, the Aerostar became friends with a guardrail last night when my bro hit some ice at low speed.)
All in all, I have a new confidence in my car, one that did not exist last winter with plain all-season tires during the winter. I can't wait for the nearby ski area to power up its lifts for the first time on saturday, I know I won't have to worry about getting there in one piece like I did last season.
Moral of the story: GET SNOW TIRES!
Regards,
Brian
