I wrote the list back on October 25 re: my 95 900sc and its engine failure at 38k miles. thought i'd send an update. although one poster who responded to my note thought the failure MUST have been due to "oil starvation" in my car, i can assure everyone this was NOT the case. i have consistently changed the oil in my saab about every 5000 miles. my dealer told me this is best since i do mostly "in town" driving; otherwise, he said they recommend every 10k miles. so.....the full scoop is that my dealer (Thoroughbred Motorcars) felt there was nothing i did (nor could have done) to prevent my saab's engine failure. They (Thoroughbred) and my service rep (Todd) really stood behind me. Todd contacted Brenda at Saab, and the day after his call to her, she called me at home to say they would pay 75% of the total charges. It ended up that my total was WAY more than either the dealer or Saab USA expected ($6800 plus for the new engine block and doing all the requisite work with getting everything right), but Saab USA paid everything but the labor (my portion was $1219 w/tax). I now have a 95 900sc with a new engine. I am quite thankful, both to Saab USA and to my dealership. Just wanted folks to know what happened. Per Todd, my engine threw a rod all the way THROUGH the engine block (while i was going 70 on the interstate). They're sending the engine to Saab, so that they can figure out what happened.....i pretty much feel like i have a new car, and for $1200+, i consider that quite a good deal. Although my car had only 38k (it was really just a bit over 37k), it was a year and a half out of warranty, and Saab wouldn't have had to do anything for me. I do appreciate their taking care of me. I won't forget it, that's for sure.
