Can I DIY my new exhaust piece?

So, on Monday my new flex pipe (after the converter) will arrive for my 96 900S. From what I understand, the exhaust system sections are basically just clamped together, so does that mean that replacing a short section of the system would be a fairly easy job for me to do myself? Or, is it really involved with lots of fancy tools? I am pretty good at taking things apart and putting them back together if a)they have instructions, or b) it is fairly obvious what needs to be done by just looking at it. My dad is much more mechanical than myself, so with his help, do you think we could replace the flex-pipe? (The nearest competent mechanic is 40 mins away...bleh).
Also, if you feel that I could handle this job and you have experience with the exhaust system, could you let me know the basics of what I will need to do?
Thanks as always!
Brian
