If it's sunny, I'll wear sunglasses. I rarely lower my visor unless I'm driving directly into the sun. You can still use the visor, you just can't use the radar detector.
I only use my radar detector if I'm on a long drive through unfamiliar areas, or if I'm in a particular hurry. I rarely use it locally (driving to work and back, groceries, etc.) because I usually drive about 10 mph over the limit and/or I know all the usual police hangouts.
I find using the detector on EVERY trip gets to be annoying - false alarms or traffic lights, etc. I could set it to city mode, but I'd rather hear everything than miss something.
My detector is an older Beltronics 645STi (I think), shielded from VG2. My fiance has one that is much better, but without the VG2 guard. Anyway, 1/2 the art of getting away with speeding is knowing where the police will be, driving responsibly and not drawing attention to yourself (constantly in the left lane, vast difference in speed from traffic, weaving, etc.).
Sorry to ramble - JMJ
