my DI Cassette failing?

My 95SET is not happy after I took the TDI Passat on the road trip...
After the engine warms up for a while, I get intermittant missing on the ignition. Most problems occur while accelerating through minor manifold vacuum. I can go full throttle and get great power and acceleration without missing a beat, but it is the partial acceleration that gets the non-ignition events.
As I can do WOT and get lots of good power, it is not a fuel supply problem. The fuel filter was replaced last summer.
Usine Amico 92 octane, thats all that you get in Kansas.
Came home and fitted new plugs and cleaned the throttle body, no change in the ignition problem.
The old plugs were eroded to around .040 after 20 to 25K miles, new ones gapped to .035. The old plugs looked great, all slight tan, more on the pale side to white. All very nearly the same deposit patterns and color. I would have kept running the old plugs, but wanted the new ones installed as a process of elimination. (was running 2 year old NGK platinum plugs, the other kind!)
The previous tank of fuel was with Techron Conentrate, prior to the dyno runs. So the injectors are in good shape. The pistons also looked fairly clean too.
After some non ignition events, I get a CEL code 6, which is for the 02 sensor. I believe that that is not the root cause, but that the O2 sensor picks up the non ignition events when there is a cluser of them. Nothing with the O2 sensor would cause the igniton failures. The O2 sensor was replaced last summer. If I clear the code, it does not come back until there is an other cluster of non-ignitions events, which can be perhaps an hour later.
The ignition failures are very on-off. Strong performance with power drop outs. The idle and starting seem to be perfect so far.
Gas mileage on the way home was good.
So, I am suspicious that it is the DI cassette. Any other thoughts?
