As previously noted the estimate seems high. See if there is anything they can do with the price. Actually before you ask, check around and see if there are other Saab dealers and/or Saab mechanics in the area and let them know you are price shopping. You are looking at removing the head and a whole slew of things on the passenger side of the car. If you get the work done maybe you can go ahead and have them replace the valve stem seals also. If it is the head gasket leaking, you could be looking at water contamination in your engine oil. The price is a lot to swallow. Call Saab up, speak to someone in the customer service department. Let them know about your disatisfaction. There is no way a regularly maintained vehicle should have the Timing start to go bad at 70K miles. Do you have records of service? ( Times like these make me wish I kept better records, I do the maintenance, I just forget to wrie it all down) Tell the reps, you wanted to buy a used Saab first to see if you liked the brand before buying a brand new one. Thats pretty much what I did. Good luck.
regards,
Bryan C
