just so you know where i've been... i changed the cable at 45k when i bought my car, new clutch at 80k and another cable at 85k. so you're not alone are really out of the ordinary. shift linkage upgrade may come soon.
as far as buying another saab...
are you the first owner? if not then you cannot really speak as to the longevity of the clutch. even a couple thousand miles of @!?hole driving can severely decrease the life of a clutch. while i'm not a sedate driver, my clutch takes very little abuse, even in spirited driving. when you have a good engine and (decent) trani, and know how to drive, this should be the case. i can only assume the previous owner of my car was a bit of a jerk (i've got other hints... another time)
just today i learned that my car needs a total of around $2k of service, new front suspension (installed today) and rear main seal leak, being the bulk of that cost. I went through the though process of what else i might get that would be as satifying as my car ('94 900SET) and given my middle book is around $8500ish, i'd need to spend $5k more to be just ok with my new car and really $12k-$15k more to get a car that i'd be really happy with. is my saab perfect? no. do i love it? yes. will i buy another one when i have more money? i don't know... can i think of a better car (all around) for under ten grand? absolutely not.
not raggin' on you... just defending our cars (a bit) and perhaps justifying the 2k i'm in the process of spending.
hope the fist paragraph gives you a little solace. the rest is me on my soap box.
