If you're losing this much oil, it's major. I'd have someone follow you and carefully check for telltale blue smoke. If you have a 5 speed, there might be a puff of oil visible at the shift point. (At this mileage, it's probably not likely unless you have somehow cracked a ring.) Also check for oil burning when you first start the engine. (This could be valve seals??)
You might want to see if there's an oil pressure sender unit screwed into the engine block (It will have a wire hooked to it). (I assume there is, as there are with most engines.) Sometimes these things (I'm drawing this observation from experience I've had with many Bosch units in VW's) will develop a MAJOR leak at the tip where the wire clips on. Also check other obvious culprits-- valve cover gaskets, oil filter, or god forbid, rear seals. Puzzling that you have no floor stains though. I bet it wasn't topped off at the last change.
