The exact same thing happened to my '95 SET convertible. The trim is attached by springs. You can search for past posts that tell you how to do it the "right" way; it involves partially removing the bumper cover (no thanks).
I simply cut the trim by both slots. The little tab of trim that was still attached to the spring retracted into the bumper cover. It's still in there, but so what? I then bought some adhesive-backed trim at Pep Boys and attached it in the groove. I'd defy anyone to tell it wasn't original from more than 3 feet away.
