Antenna Motor Drum Replacement Question

For those of you who have done this. I bought the drum and it came with a c-clip does this clip replace the washer looking part that held the drum on originally? I took the motor apart yesterday and picked up the drum today but when it came apart I tried to put the old drum and that washer back on to hold it but no luck so I am hoping the C-clip will hold the new drum on. Is this correct. Thanks
