c900. Virtually all the gremlins are worked out. The V-6 OTOH is sourced from GM-Europe (Opel, to be exact). Those with the V-6 may say otherwise, but this engine is to be avoided. The original service specs stated changing out the timing belts at 60,000 when they came to find out they were failing before then. They since revised the spec to 30,000 miles. Far to soon IMHO for a timing belt change.

The classic Saab in-line 4 cyl engine is timed off of a chain rather than a belt. As such it is a much more robust set up and will last you many happy miles. I changed mine out on my C900 at about 200,000 miles. Granted, I was REALLY pushing it and should have done it at about 100,000 miles. That car had 305,000 miles on it by the time I sold it last year...

Today I have a '97 NG900, manual transmission and it has over 95,000 miles. The only major repairs I've had to do is seal on the input shaft of the transmission. While doing that I also put in a new clutch.

I've also put on the Abbott ECU, Viggen Rescue Pack, Saab Sport 2.5" exhaust among other things. The car is a rock. Change the oil faithully every 3,000 just as before in my classic Saabs. Should last me another 200,000+ miles I suspect!
