It's funny, my idler pulley went unannaounced as well, leaving me 'stranded' in Ottawa, Ontario over the New Year's weekend. It could have been worse - luckily I was staying with family, and there's plenty to do in Ottawa, but changing an idler pulley outside in -20C is NOT fun.

My '92 Toyota Corolla LSX never left me on the roadside, but it had plenty of worn parts replaced before I sold it at 130K km (some argue it was my driving, rather than the reliability of the car). It was cheaper to buy, own and repair, but I'll take my SAAB any day.

BTW - I bought an extended warranty for my SAAB, and I'm glad I did. Now I can get most things fixed at my dealership and pay for only normal wear & tear items. The A/C & SID are covered, the clutch is not, though.
