The 1994 and first half of 1995 used a slightly different front suspension layout. The only difference is that on the earlier style the anti-roll bar attaches to the rear control arms (Saab calls these "stanchions") and on the newer style the anti-roll bar attaches to the front control arm. A different bar is obviously necessary, as well as different control arms which have the "hole" for the anti-roll bar on the front one.
As far as I can figure out...this change helped to stabilize the control arm better in taking suspension force which pushes the wheel towards the rear of the car. The earlier style works just fine, but feels a little less solid (very little in my opinion).
The problem with the earlier style is that when the rear bushings (responsible for stabilizing rearward force on the wheel) get worn, the wheel can vibrate back and forth manifested by a steering wheel vibration between 60 and 80mph.
Not a big deal really as the bushings are $15 each.
I have experienced the above and changed my bushings to alleviate the problem. I have heard an upgrade kit is available for $400-500, and swapping the anti-roll bar means dropping the engine subframe to get it in/out.
I don't think this issue is a big enough deal to tell you, if you were looking to buy a NG900, to avoid the early ones...its pretty minor and the fix is easy.
Nick.
