Don't buy a Saab if you can't afford the upkeep.
I bought my '96 900 coupe 16 months ago and have invested 1/4 it's value in repairs and another 1/4 in upgrades. But now I have a car that I enjoy to drive, and almost every major wear part has been replaced (clutch, brakes, control arm, muffler, shocks, air filter, antenna, transmission seal, vacuum lines). That's a lengthy list, but my car also had all original equipement when I bought it at 220K km, it needed some money to bring it back to new (and better now). Well, that's my story anyway. Good luck with your car purchase, even if it isn't a Saab.
