Word of warning about heated seats

Spent much of last Sat. fixing heated driver seat. If you habitually kneel on the seat bolster when putting things into the back seat or the far side of the car, you are more likely to break the resistance wire that heats the seat. As mentioned in other posts, my break was at the left rear of the driver seat in the bolster.
Repair can be done w/o removing the seat but is easier if you remove the 4 bolts holding the track to the seat bracket. Don't remove the bolts holding the seat to the track. They are very difficult to get back in.
You'll have to unplug two wire connections and unbolt the seatbelt to remove the seat. Then remove the seat controls on the left side. One bolt is very hard to reach.
Then unhook the leather at the back of the seat from the wire running across the seat bottom and peel the leater cover back to expose the left rear of the seat. You'll probably see a burn mark where the wire is broken. I soldered a piece of insulated copper wire to the resistance wire after cleaning the wire and using soldering paste to clean and assist the solder joint. Getting a good solder joint with the resistance wire isn't easy. I then used duct tape to hold the patch in place so it won't come under strain.
