i know little to nothing about cars. my '94 SAAB with 68,000 needs (according a dealer that i trust):
1. a new clutch and associated stuff (they were more technical about the description; i just forgot what they said. they told me the same thing at 63,000. i've gone another 5,000 since they said i might need one soon)
2. perhaps a new flywheel (can't tell until they have it open to replace clutch)
3. front and back seals (on ????) because there are some oil leaks (this is definitely true...i've been having to add oil, which is very unusual)
if i have all of the above fixed it will cost between $2000 and 2500.
in addition, the car periodically has difficult starts. most seem to be when engine in hot. after it cools it usually will start.
car has a somewhat rocky history will a timing belt failure and subsequent rebuilding of three cylinder. paid for by SAAB.
body is in good shape. interior is in good shape.
blue book retail value is somewhere between $5800 and $7000.
would YOU put $2500 into a car like this? i really like to hold on to my cars, but this is a lot of money for a car that is almost 10 years old.
thanks for any advice you are willing to give.
