Looking for some thoughts on the capacity ratings for jackstands.
I had some Craftsman 3-ton jack stands (with the U-shape designed for axles) but I was unhappy with the way they fit (didn't fit?) the recommended jack points on my 1994 900. I returned them to Sears. Seems I'm not alone in this, as a few folks suggested AC-Hydraulics for jack stands. See link below.
The search for better stands led me to those with a flatter, wider surface and the suggestion for using rubber pads on top. I'm sold.
I want to know if the capacity of the AC Hydraulics 1500N is adequate. It is a 1500 kilo or 3306 (1.653 ton) capacity. This is PER jack stand of course. This seems plenty but it is the smallest stand that they make, and well below the 3-ton=6000 lb capacity of the Craftsman stands I had. Griots sells a stand with a fairly flat top. They offer 3-ton and 5-ton only.
The next size up for AC Hydraulics is the 3000N. These have 3000 kilo or 6600lb (3.3 ton) capacity but cost more, are bigger, and heavier to ship. As long as I'm safe, I don't see the point in buying extra beefy stands. Storage is something of an issue for me (no garage) so if perfectly safe, I would opt for the smaller stands.
Any thoughts? I use good common sense when using jack stands, etc.
Thanks,
