I saw Brokeback Mountain last night.. in Salt Lake City of all places. I don't see many movies but since there isn't much of a night life here I decided to see the film which has a lot of buzz surrounding it.
I really liked it. The story was absolutely captivating. The actors portraying the two main characters did so in such a way that I as a filmgoer was totally drawn in to their relationship... it seems they really became those characters rather than simply portraying them. The way the movie was filmed showed such beautiful scenery and nature.
Much like when I read a good book, I was totally drawn in. When the movie ended, I wished it wasn't over. I was really moved by the passion of the relationship portrayed in the movie.
The solitude and peacefulness of the locations in the movie really has stuck with me... I feel like I need to get out of the city, away from the noise, and the yuppie gotta-have-it drive to obtain more posessions. Of course some of this feeling probably comes from the fact that I slept very poorly in my noisy hotel all night. But the longing to slow life down a little to less frenetic pace is not a surprising one.
I don't see many movies or read film reviews. I don't know the technical terms to describe what I liked about the film. As an engineer, I like to have the correct technical terms for describing things. But maybe there are no technical terms that can be used to describe such an emotion-filled movie. In any case, I'd recommend the movie. It is a bit unconventional, but that is a definite part of its appeal.
