How to keep black trim in good condition?

I have a 1999 9-3SE and I know many people have posted on how to keep the black trim black, but are there any good recommendations for simply keeping the trim in good conidition? (i.e., not drying out).
As I mentioned in a previous post, there are probably four different black materials -- plastics, rubbers, etc. -- around the windows and door of my car. Is Vinylex a product that would work well?? I didn't know if this was more for interiors (and would wash off quickly on the exterior), but I just want to keep the rubber and plastic trim looking good and prevent things from drying out.
Thanks
