I have to go pick up my custom plates. They say "SAABNET", what else!
We don't have front tags/plates in Kansas, so I managed to find the front frame in the basement, not as easy as it sounds.
I went to Advance Auto Parts to pick up another smoked polycab licence plate protecter, nice curved ones. And I needed new fasteners as the ones that come with the vehicle are too short when used with such frames.
They have nice stainless steel ones, that have hex key heads, but these have a security pin projection in the center and come with a drilled out hex key. So nice to see some security bolts in stainless. The have some that are 6mm thread and will work with Saab metal backing plates. The bolts are long and you will have to shorten them with a hacksaw. Yes, a lot of work. Put the nuts on the them and put the nut in a vise, saw it to length and when you remove from the bolt, any burrs will be straightened out. Use a needle file to dress the cut thread.
For the front, the frame on my 9-5 is black polycarb and self tapping screws go into the plastic. The stainless security screws are much thicker. Drill the frame out to 3/16'. Run the screws into the holes WITH oil. This helps the screws form thread with less grinding and you will get a tighter fastener than running them in dry. Have the frame off of the vehicle. With the plate and whatever cover you plan to use, put it together and note how much the screws project out of the back of the frame which might put the screw into the paint behind. Then cut the screws to the appropriate length. Yes, more work.
