Cleaning the windshield using BON AMI.... Posted by REM in Seattle [Email] (#4) [Profile/Gallery] (more from REM in Seattle) on Tue, 28 Oct 2003 09:52:16 In Reply to: Re: Rain X questions, jc, Tue, 28 Oct 2003 07:28:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I stopped using RainX because of the build-up problem. I found that a really clean windshield will shed water well all by itself.
Buy Bon Ami Brand Cleaning Powder, the "Hasn't Scratched Yet!" baby chick trademark dry powder cleanser, made by the Faultless Starch/Bon Ami Company. Use a garden hose to wet the windshield then apply a small amount of Bon Ami to a wet sponge or soft cloth and clean the windshield. Let the Bon Ami do the work. Do not apply much pressure to the sponge or cloth. Just gently scrub the entire windshield. Thoroughly rinse the windshield and surrounding paint and dry the windshield with a soft cloth. DO NOT USE Comet or Ajax as they WILL scratch the glass.
An alternative to Bon Ami is Griot’s Garage Glass Polish or Fine Glass Polish.
Some detailer like to use car wax or Klasse AIO on the windshield. I haven't try it but it could be worth doing.
