I thought I would relate my experience last weekend with this. It took me all day to do something I never thought would take more than a couple of hours.
I bought the complete set of rubber hoses from SaabStory for $72 (8 hoses). I also bought an new expansion tank for $51 since mine had a very slight leak.
There were three hoses that were very difficult to change - all connect to the water pump under the intake manifold and A/C compressor. The top one goes to the expansion tank, and if that was the only one to replace you could do it without removing anything else - it just takes a lot of time and fussing to get the hose over the water pump connection and the hose clamp in the right position. The lower two hoses are quite impossible without moving the A/C compressor, and one of those that goes to the lower radiator connection is impossible to do without removing the intercooler.
I found removing the A/C compressor to be difficult, presumably because whatever 17mm sockets and wrenches I have in my arsenal, none work very well at getting the four nuts off so the compressor can be lifted from the bracket (no need to remove the bracket - slotting the bracket when I change the alternator bushings would have made the job easier). You have to loosen the A/C belt tension as well, which is a slow job with the 12 mm short wrench I have and the very small working space.
Removing the intercooler was pretty easy by comparison - it just took awhile to realize that the intercooler would have to come out so you could get access to the hose clamp for the lower radiator hose.
This post might help others confronted with this job - I got bits and pieces of info from various postings. Haynes and Bentley were much less helpful.
