You may have read one of my recommendations for Scratch X. I've really been pleased with it. It took out some scratches the body shop wanted to "fix" by repainting the entire panel! hmmm, a $250 repainting job or an $8 tube of stuff?
If you're nervous about the finish, take off your rear license plate and do a spot test back there. I did that the first time I used it, rubbed the stuff in as hard as I could, wiped it off, and there was no visible difference. That sold me on it's mildness.
Like Bret said, you may need to do multiple applications. I've had thin scratches take 3-4 applications. I just use a little foam pad, rub it into the scratch (both with and across the direction of the scratch) then rub it out with a microfiber towel. If it's still there, repeat.
