I'm no expert and my time is valuable too. I've had long lasting and shinney results from the 3 step process. In my opinion- The cleaner is once a year (minus bird turds- and "ugly" spots); polish is one or twice and does a great job on 'scuffs;' wax is two times (+ for club meetings) or after any cleaner/polish that I do. It's more effort up front, but the results are worth it and it lends itself to maintaing a shine and protection.
I kind of divide the car up- wheels one week, skirts/bumpers another, hood, etc... Works for me.
