My panels were warped and the fabric was aged and faded. My upholstery shop actually recommended using quality vinyl as it stretches with a heat gun btter than leather. They also recommended throwing out the cardboard in favor of some type of flexible plastic. One panel wasnt worthy of repair anyway They just used the old panel as a template. Making a new panel is REALLY easy as it is flat.
Well, basically, for $40, they replaced both cardboard panels, purchased vinyl, cut to fit, stretched with heat, used a foam liner, for the cushion look, and voila. I couldnt be happier. They said the leather was more difficult to stretch and may not look as "crisp" as the vinyl. I think they are right.
I also had the door panel top leather replaced, as well as the map pocket. My interior is 2 tone cream with dark beige. It's a looker. I couldnt be happier. They also redid my rear speaker panels.
